Question: My cervix feels like it is opening a bit and I believe it is around my period. But I have a small bump on the outside of my cervix. I never felt it there before. Is that normal or should I go to the gyno [gynecologist]?

Answer: The cervical os, opening, slightly dilates twice during each menstrual cycle. Once during ovulation and then again during menstruation. Please see the below links for additional information.

The cervix is commonly smooth and feels like the tip of your nose. Bumps could be a reason for concern, more so if you have a sexual partner and engage in intercourse, etc. For more information please see these links.

Perhaps you were touching your vaginal wall but thought it was your cervix.

Be sure to wash your hands prior to exploring inside your vagina.
